In Harmony with Nature
Ground Golf are committed to sensitive development, protecting the existing natural landscape, enhancing and celebrating its biodiversity. The golf course designed so that it is ‘found’ in the landscape, as though it has always been here, rather than forced or imposed upon the land. Opening up the land for managed public walking trails, creating a place for people to enjoy.
Managed Walking Trails
From the outset, the proposals at Mains of Cairnbulg have aimed to encourage walking throughout the site for local people and non-golfers, ensuring the area remains open and accessible to all.
At the first public exhibition in April 2025, local feedback made clear just how important walking trails – especially those around the Waters of Philorth car park. In response, these walking routes will be enhanced and designed to sit alongside the golf course.
The existing grassed-over railway line will also be kept and enhanced as a safe walking and cycling route, linking the communities of Cairnbulg and Inverallochy with Fraserburgh.
In addition, the proposal includes a further 2km of new accessible trails, made possible by a new bridge crossing over the Waters of Philorth. These new trails will remain natural in character, suitable for walking, running, and dog-walking, while also acting as green corridors to support local wildlife and biodiversity.
The paths shown opposite are indicative at this stage; the detailed design process will ensure all routes are safe, enjoyable, and able to co-exist with the golf course.
Ground Golf ’s commitment to a sustainable management plan for both the new and enhanced walking trails will ensure the site is open and accessible to all.
